18/01/2021 (Agence Europe) – The members of the European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) welcomed, on Thursday, 14 January, the European Commission’s proposal to revise the research programme of the ‘Research Fund for Coal and Steel’ (RFCS) in order to bring it into line with the Paris Agreement and the ‘European Green Deal’ (see EUROPE 12540/16). Presenting his draft report, Cristian-Silviu Buşoi (EPP, Romania) stressed in particular that it is important that this revision enables the RFCS to support research projects contributing to the sustainable decarbonisation of the steel industry and to increase the use of technologies aimed at developing the circular economy. As the European Parliament only has an advisory role on this dossier, the draft report also asks the Council of the EU to consult Parliament again if it intends to substantially amend the Commission proposal.
