18/03/2021 (Agence Europe) – Seven years to the day after Russia’s “illegitimate and illegal” annexation of Crimea and the City of Sevastopol, the G7 foreign ministers (Germany, France, Italy, Japan, the UK, the US and Canada) and the High Representative of the Union reaffirmed, on Thursday 18 March, their “unwavering support” for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, condemning Russia’s continued actions to undermine them. “Russia’s attempts to legitimise (the annexation) are not, and will not, be recognised”, they warned in a statement. They condemned human rights violations on the peninsula, calling on Russia to respect its international obligations. “We welcome in principle Ukraine’s initiative to establish an International Crimean Platform to consolidate the international community’s efforts on Crimea”, the ministers also stressed.
