05/03/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 5 March, the European Magazine Media Association (EMMA) and the European Newspaper Publishers Association (ENPA ) said that they were “deeply concerned” about the advertising targeting system that US giant Google plans to implement in the second quarter of 2021 to replace the current system based on the use of “cookies”. The model unveiled on 3 March will allow Google to “further extend its data monopoly” and, by affecting the advertising market, “will disrupt the business model of the online press”, according to European publishers. According to them, “such an important change in the way the digital economy works should not be decided by a private technological giant”. They call on the European legislator to use the DSA/DMA legislative package on the table to “limit the discretionary power of platforms” (see EUROPE 12664/11). (MB)
