18/02/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 18 February, the European Commission announced that it has approved the application to include ‘Újfehértói meggy’ from Hungary and ‘Liptovské droby’ from Slovakia in the Community Register of Protected Geographical Indications (PGI). ‘Újfehértói meggy’ refers to the morello cherries produced in the Nyírség region of Eastern Hungary. ‘Liptovské droby’ are sausages made using an traditional method in the Liptov region of northern Slovakia. The distinctiveness of this product lies in its stuffing, which is made from potatoes, fries and spices and stuffed in natural pork or beef casings. The new designations will join 1,514 food products that are already protected at EU level. (LC)
