16/02/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 16 February, Josep Borrell, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, underlined his support for the efforts of Christine Schraner Burgener, the UN’s Special Envoy to Myanmar, to try to obtain full access to the country and establish dialogue on the ground. In a discussion with Dato Erywan Yusof, the Foreign Minister of Brunei Darussalam, in the latter’s capacity as chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) for 2021, the High Representative encouraged ASEAN in its efforts to establish a dialogue and find a way forward in Myanmar and underlined the EU’s readiness to provide support. According to the press release issued by the European External Action Service, he also informed the minister about the options that the EU is considering regarding Myanmar, “including possible new restrictive measures”.
