04/02/2021 (Agence Europe) – The European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) deplored, in a press release published on Wednesday 3 February, the lack of ambition on the part of the European Commission in its plan to combat cancer (see EUROPE 12650/1) with regard to occupational health. The plan includes many supporting actions concerning occupational cancer, notes the trade union organisation. But in its view, the EU should be bolder and make ‘zero occupational cancer’ a priority and a vision for 2030. For the organisation, at least 25 new mutagenic and carcinogenic substances need to be included in European law by 2024. It also believes that standards for certain substances, including crystalline silica, diesel emissions, and asbestos, should be reviewed. (PH)
