03/02/2021 (Agence Europe) – In a statement adopted on Tuesday 2 February at the end of a ministerial meeting attended by Chile and the Dominican Republic as full members, the International Contact Group (ICG) for Venezuela is calling on democratic opposition forces to “come together” in a “concerted effort” to resume dialogue with the Maduro regime, a move that will require “difficult compromises” to achieve a successful political transition. The ICG called for freedom and security for all political actors and the release of political prisoners. There was no explicit reference either to the recently established new National Assembly, which will be controlled by the regime, or to Juan Guaidó, the former president of the assembly.
