29/01/2021 (Agence Europe) – The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, will visit Russia from the evening of 4 February to 6 February, announced the European External Action Service (EEAS) on Friday 29 January. This will be the first visit to the country by a High Representative of the Union since 2017. According to the EEAS, the High Representative intends to discuss Russia’s actions in the neighbourhood, the nuclear agreement with Iran, Covid-19, and climate change. The situation of Alexei Navalny and concerns about fundamental freedoms and human rights in Russia will also be on the agenda, says the EEAS. Mr Borrell will hold talks with the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Sergei Lavrov, representatives of civil society, and academics. The EEAS did not specify whether Mr Borrell would meet Mr Navalny.
