United States ready to resume discussions on international tax reform

29/01/2021 (Agence Europe)According to a press release issued by the French Ministry of Economy and Finance on Thursday 28 January following a telephone call between Bruno Le Maire, the French Minister of the Economy and Finance, and Janet Yellen, the new US Secretary of the Treasury, Yellen has confirmed that the United States is ready to reach an agreement on international tax reform at the OECD by mid-2021 (see EUROPE 12646/19). Le Maire welcomed Yellen’s commitment to active involvement of American teams in international discussions, the statement said. Donald Trump’s administration had called for a pause in the OECD negotiations in June last year (see EUROPE 12509/17) and EU leaders had been eagerly waiting for positive signals from Joe Biden’s new administration. Le Maire and Yellen also discussed the need to reduce trade tensions between the US and the EU. (MF)
