EFSA publishes its first scientific opinion on insects as novel food

13/01/2021 (Agence Europe) – The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) published, on Wednesday 13 January, its first scientific opinion resulting from the safety assessment of the food product derived from insects, within the framework of the European Novel Food Regulation (EU Regulation 2015.2283). This assessment concerns dried yellow mealworms (larvae of Tenebrio molitor). Further evaluations are in progress. EFSA’s favourable opinion on dried mealworms is an aid to risk managers.
