16/12/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 15 December, the European Commission announced that along with the EIB and GAVI (the Vaccine Alliance), they had signed agreements for the EU’s €500 million financial envelope for the COVAX facility to ensure fair and equitable access to vaccines protecting against Covid-19 for 92 low- and middle-income countries (see EUROPE 12600/25). The EU grant of €100 million and the EIB loan of €400 million will help COVAX make available one billion doses of vaccines to millions of people in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and the Pacific, as well as in Europe’s neighbouring countries. Madagascar has asked not to take part in it. The vaccines will be purchased and delivered by UNICEF and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) on behalf of COVAX. (AN)
