Member States’ Ambassadors to the EU decided on Wednesday 16 December to remove Uruguay from the common list of non-Member States whose residents are allowed to travel to the EU for non-essential reasons. With this withdrawal, the list defined on 30 June is therefore reduced to 8 countries.
The country’s epidemiological situation, which is worse than that of the EU, explains this decision, the criterion used by Europeans being the average number of cases detected per 100,000 inhabitants over the last two weeks, as laid down in the recommendation of 30 June organising these travel restrictions (see EUROPE 12517/8).
The common European list therefore currently includes the following countries: Thailand, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Rwanda, South Korea, China and Singapore (subject to reciprocity).
The written adoption procedure was launched in the wake of this decision.
The last changes to the list were made in October (see EUROPE 12586/5). (Original version in French by Solenn Paulic)
