26/11/2020 (Agence Europe) – The European Transport Safety Council (ETSC), in a communiqué issued on Thursday 26 November, expressed its concern about the recent proposals made by the Commission on the Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA), one of the vehicle safety technologies included in the EU’s new General Safety Regulation for motor vehicles (see EUROPE 12222/21). According to the organisation, the Commission proposed at an expert group meeting at the beginning of November, a system of ‘beeps’ when the speed limit is reached, instead of a return to the accelerator pedal. For the ETSC, this weakening, desired by the automotive industry, would result in 1,300 more deaths each year. For more information: https://bit.ly/3la3BJs (PH)
