European Public Prosecutor’s Office meets its main European partners

19/11/2020 (Agence Europe)On Thursday, 19 November, 160 experts met at a high-level online conference organised by the German EU Council Presidency to discuss cooperation between the European Public Prosecutor’s Office and its European partners. The event brought together the European Commissioner for Justice, the Chief Prosecutor of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, the President of the Court of Justice of the EU, the Director of Europol, the President of Eurojust and the Head of the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) as well as experts from the Member States. According to the statement issued by the German Presidency, the discussions covered cooperation between the 22 Member States participating in the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, cooperation with other countries, criminal defence and legal protection against measures taken by the European Public Prosecutor’s Office. The new body, which is still finalising preparations before taking up its duties (see EUROPE 12599/16), is expected to be able to start conducting its own investigations in early 2021. (MF)
