19/11/2020 (Agence Europe) – Work on the construction of the DEFISSOL solar power plant in Benin, financed with the support of the EU and France, has been officially launched, the European Commission announced on Thursday 19 November. This project aims to facilitate the population’s access to renewable energy at an affordable price. The construction of the plant, worth a total of 60.85 million euros, is being financed under a partnership between the EU, Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and the Société béninoise d'énergie électrique (SBEE). The EU contribution so far amounts to 10.35 million euros. This project is part of the ‘Promoting the Green Economy in Benin’ program (PREVER I) to which the EU is contributing 30 million euros in grants with the aim of mobilising 108.52 million euros, including 95 million euros in the form of sovereign loans granted by AFD.
