German Presidency hopes to conclude interinstitutional negotiations on European Year of Rail in November

27/10/2020 (Agence Europe)Negotiators from the European Parliament and the EU Council met on Tuesday, 27 October, for a first trilogue meeting on the European Commission’s proposal aiming to make 2021 the European Year of Rail (see EUROPE 12439/7). This initial consultation enabled the co-legislators to explain their respective positions in detail and identify the main points of disagreement, previously detailed in our columns (see EUROPE 12588/8). A European source told EUROPE that a second trilogue is scheduled for 12 November and specified that the German Presidency of the Council of the EU hoped that an agreement could be reached by that date. Further technical meetings will be held between now and then. Indeed, negotiations will have to come to a successful conclusion quickly so that this new European Year can be launched on time. (AC)
