EU launches pool of peace mediators

27/10/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 26 October, the Secretary-General of the European External Action Service, Helga Schmid, announced that the EEAS had launched a pool of mediators to assist the EU in its peace mediation activities. “We have just launched a perfectly gender based EEAS pool of mediators which will assist our EU practitioners in the field even more. The EEAS task force on peace mediation will help us provide guidelines and to identify priorities”, she explained at a hearing in the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs. According to Ms Schmid, this group of mediators, composed of 10 men and 10 women, should soon be deployed to Mali for its first mission. (CG)
