22/10/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday, 21 October, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell expressed, on behalf of the EU, his alarm at the deadly crackdown on demonstrations by youth against police brutality in Nigeria the day before. “It is alarming to learn that several people have been killed and injured during the ongoing protests against the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Nigeria”, he stated. He went on to add, “It is crucial that those responsible of abuses be brought to justice and held accountable”. By way of reminder, the high representative said that the EU “[expects] to see decisive implementation” of the reforms promised by the Nigerian government. According to Amnesty International, the crackdown on protesters has reportedly left 12 people dead. (AN)
