The EU Ministers for Industry and the Internal Market will exchange views on EU industrial policy in the context of recovery and the green and digital transitions in a videoconference on the morning of Friday 23 October. More specifically, they will address how to ensure fair competition.
The meeting will thus focus on the role of industry in the context of industrial strategy (see EUROPE 12443/7), but also in relation to the White Paper on a level playing field for foreign subsidies (see EUROPE 12508/1). The Presidency will seek Ministers’ views on whether they consider it necessary to develop new instruments to counter distortions of competition in the single market caused by foreign subsidies.
The Presidency also wants to address innovation and how to speed up the commercialisation of innovations in order to work towards greater industrial competitiveness. To this end, it will seek to identify, with the help of Ministers, possible and desirable measures and reforms at both national and European level to improve investment in innovation. In this context, the Presidency intends to sound out Ministers on the innovations that will be fundamental in the coming decade and the sectors in which the Union can take the lead.
