15/10/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 15 October, the EU Council imposed restrictive measures - an assets freeze and a travel ban - on Evgueni Prigojine, a Russian businessman with close relations, including financial ones, with a private military company, the Wagner Group. According to the Council, this group is involved in “multiple and repeated violations of the arms embargo” imposed on Libya and, as a result, Mr Prigojine engages in and supports acts that threaten the peace, security or stability of Libya. Mr Prigojine is also close to the Russian President, Vladimir Putin. With this new designation, the EU imposes a travel ban on 16 individuals and an assets freeze on 20 individuals and 19 entities, deemed responsible for actions that threaten the peace, security or stability of Libya.
