European Commission and EU-OSHA launch campaign to combat musculoskeletal disorders

The European Commission and the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) launched, on Monday 12 October, a major campaign to combat work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).

Entitled ‘Healthy Workplaces Lighten the Load’, this announcement kicks off a two-year programme of events and actions. Examples include events to exchange good practice, prizes and the European Week for Safety and Health at Work.

EU-OSHA explains on a web page launched on this occasion that this campaign will rely largely on the social partners, but also on media partners and a wide network of national points. The European agency published a toolkit to take part in the campaign.

MSDs are a widespread disease, affecting three out of five workers in Europe, and remain the most common work-related health problem in all sectors, the Commission explains in its press release. “With the pandemic affecting how we live and work, we can all benefit from the guidance and resources published today”, said Nicolas Schmit, Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights.
