07/10/2020 (Agence Europe) – As it had done on 29 September in respect of Armenia and Azerbaijan, the European Court of Human Rights took an interim measure on Monday 5 October calling on “all States directly or indirectly involved in the conflict, including Turkey, to refrain from actions that contribute to breaches of the rights of civilians guaranteed by the European Convention on Human Rights, and to respect their obligations under the Convention”. This measure follows a request made by Armenia against Turkey on 4 October. It was taken by the Court in a context of “escalation of the conflict” and is based on Rule 39 of its Rules of Procedure, which allows it to adjudicate “where there is imminent risk of irreparable harm”.
