07/10/2020 (Agence Europe) – On 6 October, 25 MEPs called in a letter to the commanders of the Belarusian armed forces “to protect civilians, not beat and harass them”. “This is a historic turning point where you have to make the right decision: to be part of the coup and military junta, organised by Lukashenko the citizen, or to place yourself on the side of the history of a peaceful civic Belarusian nation that simply demands that the rights of the people be respected”, explain these MEPs from 13 Member States, mainly EPP but also ECR, S&D, Renew Europe and Non-attached Members. According to them, commanders must choose to follow their “oath to defend the people of Belarus” or “follow the illegal orders of a power usurper, Lukashenko the private citizen”. They considered it constituted a crime to follow Lukashenko’s “illegal orders”. See the letter: https://bit.ly/3iEow6b (CG)
