01/10/2020 (Agence Europe) – In the run-up to the presidential election in Guinea on 18 October, the EU shares the concerns expressed by regional and international actors regarding the conditions under which it is being organised and is calling for credible elections. “Following the Constitutional Court’s approval of the candidates on 9 September, it is now imperative that the competent authorities and institutions in Guinea guarantee that the electoral process is impartial, transparent, inclusive and fair”, said the High Representative of the Union in a statement on behalf of the EU-27 on 30 September. He calls on “all of the political class and of civil society, as well as the relevant administrations, to engage with one another in a constructive and peaceful way” in order to ensure that the electoral process is transparent and “contributes to lasting reconciliation among all Guineans”. The EU deplores the violence that accompanied the elections in March 2020. The statement can be found at: https://bit.ly/3n4xdu5 (AN)
