01/10/2020 (Agence Europe) – Faced with the escalation of the armed conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Marija Pejčinović Burić, called on Thursday for a “peaceful solution” found “at the negotiating table” in order to “prevent a grave humanitarian crisis”. She urged all parties to “cease hostilities immediately” and to apply without delay the interim measures issued yesterday by the European Court of Human Rights. The Secretary General also reminded Azerbaijan and Armenia that, upon their simultaneous accession to the Council of Europe in January 2001, both countries undertook to resolve this conflict “by peaceful means”. She concluded by reaffirming her support for the work carried out by the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, as already stated in a Declaration of 27 September. (VL)
