23/09/2020 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament's new Standing Subcommittee on Tax Matters (FISC) (see EUROPE 12504/17) elected its executive on Wednesday 23 September. Unsurprisingly, it was Dutchman Paul Tang (S&D) who was elected President, by acclamation, as had already been formally agreed between the political groups (see EUROPE 12429/31). After his election, Mr Tang promised to do his utmost to put tax justice at the top of the European Parliament's agenda. Markus Ferber (EPP, Germany) was elected 1st Vice-President, Martin Hlaváček (RE, Czech Republic) 2nd Vice-President, Kira Marie Peter-Hansen (Greens/EFA, Denmark) 3rd Vice-President and Othmar Karas (EPP, Austria) as 4th Vice-President. The first meeting of the sub-committee will take place on Thursday 24 September, with an exchange of views with Taxation Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni on the Commission's future priorities. (MF)
