European Parliament wants maritime transport to be included in ETS system from 2022 onwards

Meeting in plenary session in Brussels on Tuesday 15 September, MEPs approved by a narrow majority (354 votes in favour, 328 against and 13 abstentions) an amendment to the report by Jutta Paulus (Greens/EFA, Germany) to extend the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) to maritime transport from 1 January 2022.

To this end, the amendment requires the European Commission to carry out an impact assessment by 31 December 2020 at the latest and to adopt delegated acts to amend the European Directive...
