European Parliament confirms appointment of Klaus Löber as head of ESMA’s Central Counterparty Supervisory Committee

15/09/2020 (Agence Europe)On Monday 14 September, MEPs confirmed in plenary session the appointment of Klaus Löber as head of the new Central Counterparty Supervisory Committee (CCP) of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) by 546 votes to 34, with 107 abstentions. Selected by the ESMA Board of Supervisors, Klaus Löber has 25 years of experience in the financial sector and is currently head of the Oversight Division at the European Central Bank (ECB). On the same day, the European Parliament also validated the appointments, as independent members for the committee, of Nicoletta Giusto (614 votes in favour, 18 against and 55 abstentions), who is currently head of international relations for the Italian stock exchange authority, and Froukelien Wendt (548 votes in favour, 33 against and 106 abstentions), a market infrastructure specialist at the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Parliament’s ECON Committee approved these nominations last week (see EUROPE 12558/26), after hearing the candidates beforehand. (MF)
