11/09/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 11 September, the European Commission proposed allocating €2 million from the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) to help 500 redundant shipbuilding workers in Galicia to find new jobs. The objective is to help job seekers to focus on seeking jobs in other sectors and gain new skills through vocational training, and to support them after they have found a new job. The total cost of these measures is estimated at €3.4 million, says the European Commission. Since its launch in 2007, the Fund has received 161 applications for assistance totalling €636 million to support more than 150,000 workers. Recently, the EGF has been altered to respond to the socio-economic crisis caused by the pandemic (see EUROPE 12446/2). (PH)
