01/09/2020 (Agence Europe) – The German Minister of State for Europe, Michael Roth, confirmed to the European Parliament’s Committee on Constitutional Affairs on Tuesday 1 September that the Article 7 proceedings against Hungary and Poland will continue under the German Presidency. A progress report in October, followed by a hearing for both countries at the end of the year, had indeed been included in the Presidency’s calendar. Germany will also ask the European Commission to pursue infringement proceedings regarding the Rule of law. The minister recalled that the Presidency plans to organise two debates on the Rule of law: one on general issues and the other to “sift through the situation” of a first group of countries relevant to the Commission’s first annual report on the Rule of law, which will “avoid the reproach of targeting one country or another”, the minister said.
