Euro area inflation at 0.4% in July

25/08/2020 (Agence Europe)Euro area annual inflation was 0.4% in July 2020, up from 0.3% in June, according to figures released by the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat) on 19 August. EU inflation was 0.9% in July 2020, up from 0.8% in June. The lowest annual rates were registered in Greece (-2.1%), Cyprus (-2.0%) and Estonia (-1.3%). The highest annual rates were recorded in Hungary (3.9%), Poland (3.7%) and Czechia (3.6%). Inflation was negative in Spain (-0.7%), zero in Germany and positive in Italy (0.8%) and France (0.9%). The largest contributions to inflation came from industrial goods excluding energy and services (+0.42 percentage points), followed by food, alcohol and tobacco (+0.38 pp) and energy (-0.83 pp).
