03/08/2020 (Agence Europe) – The third International E-waste Day will take place on 14 October, at the initiative of the WEEE Forum. The intention is to promote the reuse, recycling or proper disposal of electronic waste. In 2019, a record 53.6 million metric tons (Mt) of e-waste was generated worldwide, representing an increase of 21% in 5 years, according to the United Nations Global E-waste Monitor 2020. It is estimated that by 2030, this figure will reach 74 Mt. Even in Europe, which is the world leader in e-waste recycling, only 42.5% of e-waste is officially declared as having been collected and recycled. This loss of resources has been highlighted by the European Environment Agency (see EUROPE 12358/17). The WEEE Forum is inviting all interested parties to take part in the event by organising activities to raise awareness. To register, go to: https://bit.ly/39RHZgQ (AN)
