03/08/2020 (Agence Europe) – The EU delegation in Afghanistan condemned on Monday 3 August the attack on a prison in Jalalabad. The day before, armed men had launched an assault on this prison where many Taliban and Members of the Islamic State organisation are being held. ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack, which reportedly left at least 20 people dead and about 40 injured. The three-day truce agreed between the Taliban and Afghan forces for the Eid holiday had so far been widely respected. “Eid, a reciprocated ceasefire between the Government and Taliban ... and yet Afghans pay the ultimate price to violence and terrorist attacks”, the delegation denounced on Twitter. They said that “the Jalalabad attack yet again signifies the urgency for peace talks, long-term ceasefire and unity against spoilers”. (CG)
