EU encourages all actors to commit to ECOWAS crisis exit plan

Brussels, 23/07/2020 (Agence Europe)The EU considers that the good offices mission led by an ECOWAS delegation in Bamako has "enabled progress to be made towards a framework of concrete and balanced political solutions" according to a statement by the European External Action Service on 22 July. It "joins the African Union Declaration of 21 July and encourages all political actors and civil society to commit themselves fully to the implementation of the recommendations of the ECOWAS mission. The re-establishment of a legitimate National Assembly and a Government of National Unity will enable Mali to overcome the current crisis". Deploring the large number of deaths and injuries following the demonstrations in Bamako on Friday 10 July and the following days, the EU calls for an investigation to be carried out as soon as possible and for those responsible to be prosecuted.
