04/06/2020 (Agence Europe) – European Ministers of Justice invited Eurojust and the European Judicial Network, at their meeting by videoconference on Thursday 4 June, to analyse how requests for extradition of EU citizens to non-Member States are dealt with in practice and to make recommendations. Indeed, the implementation of the 2016 Petruhhin case law of the Court of Justice of the EU still poses difficulties for Member States, in particular the solution put forward by the Court to make use of the European arrest warrant (see EUROPE 12498/14). At a press conference, EU Justice Commissioner Didier Reynders said that this analysis could serve as a basis for possible “non-binding EU guidelines to assist Member States”. According to a European source, no specific guidelines were nevertheless given for this analysis at the meeting, nor any deadline set. (MF)
