26/05/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 26 May, the European Commission launched a public consultation on the protection and facilitation of cross-border investment in the EU. “Mobilising private funding will be particularly important to cope with the negative economic impact of the Coronavirus pandemic”, it said in a statement. The European Commission has already announced that its new Action Plan on Capital Markets Union (see EUROPE 12430/18) will include initiatives to strengthen the protection of intra-EU investment and to unlock a greater number of diversified sources of finance for European companies, particularly SMEs. In order to feed into its consultation process, the Commission is asking stakeholders for their views on the strengths and weaknesses of the current framework for cross-border investment in the EU.
