26/05/2020 (Agence Europe) – Ten European industry organisations, including WindEurope and SolarPower Europe, launched a joint initiative on Monday 25 May to advocate “the crucial role of renewable hydrogen [produced by electrolysers powered by 100% renewable electricity in ensuring] a sound economic recovery”. Called ‘Choose Renewable Hydrogen’, this initiative calls on the European Union to prioritise “the most efficient, sustainable and cost-effective” pathways to decarbonise its economy. According to the 10 signatories, these solutions include renewable hydrogen in order to decarbonise sectors for which direct electrification (via the development of renewable energies) is insufficient, such as certain heavy industries, long-distance road transport, aviation and maritime transport. In addition to being “completely clean”, renewable hydrogen “will be affordable” and “will create jobs and growth in Europe”, says Giles Dickson, CEO of WindEurope. (DG)
