26/05/2020 (Agence Europe) – The immediate funding gap of $8 billion to develop, produce and roll out a coronavirus vaccine worldwide has been filled. On Tuesday 26 May, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced that €9.5 billion had been raised since the telethon organised on 4 May by the WHO, the European Commission, the pharmaceutical industry and private foundations (see EUROPE 12479/1). “Since 4 May, governments, institutions, foundations and individuals have donated €9.5 billion to fight coronavirus. A world living up to solidarity!”, she rejoiced on her Twitter account. According to her it's a great success. The next step will be to mobilise citizens, starting on Thursday.
