06/05/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 6 May, the three Baltic countries - Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania - announced that they had decided to re-open their shared borders and allow their citizens to move freely between them again. Krišjānis Kariņš, Latvia’s Prime Minister, announced on Twitter on behalf of the three governments that their borders would be re-opening to each other’s citizens on 15 May. Citizens of other EU Member States will still need to spend 14 days in quarantine when they arrive in any of these three countries. The European Commission is expected to set out guidelines relating to Schengen internal borders and the gradual lifting of border controls on 13 May. It is also due to discuss this matter with Home Affairs Ministers on 8 May. Luxembourg is also suffering as a result of internal border controls and has written to the German government to ask it to lift its travel restrictions. (SP)
