27/04/2020 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission announced, on Monday 27 April, that 55 research projects will receive grants worth €150,000 each under the EU's research and innovation programme, ‘Horizon 2020’. The selected projects were presented to the European Research Council (ERC) in response to the ‘Proof of Concept’ call for proposals. They cover topics such as low-power, energy-harvesting hearing implants, faster and cheaper detection of disease-causing microorganisms or the development of a sustainable social business to manage and ethically distribute donated DNA data to scientists. The award-winning researchers, based in 17 countries - “including many EU Member States”, the Commission says - will work, among other things, to explore business opportunities and prepare patent applications.
