14/04/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Saturday 11 April, the spokesman for the European External Action Service denounced the conscription organised by Russia in the “illegally-annexed Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol to draft residents of the peninsula in the Russian Federation Armed Forces”. “This is a violation of international humanitarian law. The Russian Federation is bound by international law, and obliged to ensure the protection of human rights in the peninsula”, he emphasised in a statement. Russia is intending to call up more than 3,000 Crimean residents to serve in the Russian army in the spring. The spokesperson noted that the EU continues to expect Russia to stop all violations of international law in the Crimean peninsula, the annexation of which is not recognised by the EU. (CG)
