08/04/2020 (Agence Europe) – Germany plans to take in a total of between 350 and 500 migrant children currently living in unsanitary camps on the Greek islands, announced Heiko Maas, the head of diplomacy, on Wednesday 8 April, with 50 expected to arrive in the first phase, AFP reported. These arrivals will take place over the next few weeks. “We said (to the Greek authorities and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees) that we want to take in between 350 and 500 children in the next few weeks”, the minister said. “In the first phase”, Berlin will take care of 50 migrant children. The Commission launched an initiative in early March to evacuate 1,600 unaccompanied minors from camps in the Aegean islands. Luxembourg announced on 7 April that it would host 12 next week. (SP)
