27/03/2020 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission launched on Thursday 26 March a public consultation on the revision of the European Regulation for the protection of the ozone layer (1005/2009) scheduled for the second quarter of next year. The Regulation aims to ensure that the European Union complies with its international obligations under the ‘Montreal Protocol’ on ‘Ozone-Depleting Substances’ (ODS) and adopts an ambitious policy to prevent emissions of these substances, thereby contributing to achieving climate neutrality by 2050. According to the Commission, the Regulation can be improved in particular by increasing its effectiveness, coherence and clarity, taking into account new technological developments and extending its scope to include, for example, certain newly identified ODS. Contributions will be collected up to and including April 23rd. (DG)
