05/03/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday, 5 March, the freezing of assets of 10 persons considered by the EU to be responsible for misappropriation of Ukrainian state funds or abuse of power leading to a loss of Ukrainian public funds was extended by the EU Council for one year, until 6 March 2021. Among these people is former Prime Minister of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych. Thus, contrary to what we previously wrote (see EUROPE 12439/11), the freezing of Mr Yanukovych’s son Oleksandr’s assets is expected to be extended by one year, not 6 months. Conversely, the EU Council did not extend the measures against two individuals, namely former Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and former Minister for Energy Eduard Stavitsky. The legal acts related to these decisions will be published this Friday, 6 March, in the Official Journal of the EU. (CG)
