The European Commission announced on Friday 7 February the names of the organisations that will be members of the renewed eHealth Stakeholder Group.
As representatives of the technology sector, patients, health professionals, and the research community, these organisations will provide advice and expertise to the Commission on issues such as the transfer of health data, digital health services, data protection, cybersecurity, and the application of artificial intelligence in the context of healthcare.
Their mission will be to contribute to policy development and support the digital transformation of healthcare in the EU.
Given Europe’s ageing population, “we must invest in innovative digital technologies [...] that offer new opportunities to transform health systems”, Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton responded.
Stella Kyriakides, Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, added: “digitisation can bring concrete benefits to patients and health professionals by providing quality healthcare while reducing cost inequalities”.
The mandate of this 40-member expert group extends until 2022.
