04/02/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 4 February, the European Commission announced that it would be awarding individual Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellowships worth a total of €296.5 million under the ‘Horizon 2020’ research and innovation programme. 1,475 established postdoctoral researchers will benefit from these grants to support their research in areas such as cancer therapies, energy management and optimisation of water use in agriculture. Mariya Gabriel, the Commissioner for Innovation and Youth, said she was “delighted that 44% of the fellowship holders are women and that we are awarding 39 additional fellowships to researchers from European countries that are currently under-represented in the programme”. 13 PhD programmes and 14 post-doctoral research training programmes in ten member states and two associated countries will also receive up to €90 million in total over the next five years.
