23/01/2020 (Agence Europe) – The provisional interinstitutional agreement reached on 3 December 2019 by European Parliament and EU Council negotiators on the regulation establishing minimum requirements for the safe reuse of urban waste water for agricultural irrigation purposes was confirmed by Parliament’s Environment Committee on Tuesday 21 January by a large majority (64 votes in favour, 5 against) (see EUROPE 12382/6). This legislation aims to save water and promote the circular economy while ensuring the safety of agricultural food products. The Member States endorsed the results of the interinstitutional negotiations on 18 December (see EUROPE 12393/16). The text can be formally adopted by the EU Council once Parliament has endorsed the compromise in plenary session. (AN)
