16/12/2019 (Agence Europe) – The European Commissioner for Justice, Didier Reynders, called on Monday 16 December, in a letter to the Maltese Minister of Justice, Owen Bonnici, for a rigorous investigation without political interference in the Caruana Galizia case (see EUROPE 12389/6). In this letter, consulted by Reuters, Mr Reynders called on Malta to quickly put in place a reform agenda to ensure the independence of its judicial system. The issue of the rule of law in Malta will be debated on Tuesday 17 December at the plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg. A resolution will then be voted on Wednesday, not Thursday as originally planned. (AC)
