26/11/2019 (Agence Europe) – On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the European Parliament, in a resolution adopted by a comfortable majority (495 votes to 58, 87 abstentions) on Tuesday 26 November in plenary session, calls on Member States to repatriate all European children of combatants detained in north-eastern Syria. The resolution, supported by the EPP, S&D, Renew Europe, the Greens/EFA and the GUE/NGL, calls for consideration to be given to the family’s own situation and the “best interests of the child first”. Parliamentarians supporting the resolution call on Member States to provide the necessary support for their rehabilitation and reintegration. Finally, they deplore the inaction of Member States and the lack of coordination at EU level. (PH)
