The European External Action Service announced on Thursday 14 November that the Civil Partnership of the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP), adopted in November 2018, is beginning to produce results (see EUROPE 12141/17).
At the first annual CSDP civil partnership review conference, the security policy directors of the EU Member States noted that the pact had begun to produce results. According to a statement by the European External Action Service, progress has been made both at the national level, for example with structured coordination mechanisms in inter-ministerial cooperation, and at the seat in Brussels, with the strengthening of organisational structures to optimise the use of human resources made available by the Member States.
The directors also agreed on measures to be taken to make the CSDP more competent, efficient and responsive, according to the EEAS, which did not provide any details on this subject. Despite EUROPE's requests, neither the Finnish Presidency of the EU Council nor the EEAS, both co-organisers of the conference, were able to provide details on these measures.
The objective of the pact is to be able to send a civilian mission of 200 people around the world within 30 days.
The EU currently has 10 civilian CSDP missions deployed around the world. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
